Abstract
The conversion of existing oil fired electric generating units to either dual pulverized coal (PC)-oil or dual coal water mixture (CWM)-oil firing is an option which can result in significant oil consumption reductions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate both the engineering and economic feasibility of the conversion of generating units with only oil firing capability to dual PC-oil or CWM-oil firing and to determine the market potential of such conversions. This report includes a brief introduction, after which the organization is as follows: (1) market potential; (2) retrofit criteria; (3) conceptual designs; (4) economic evaluations; and (5) effects of coal ash content. 29 refs.
