Abstract
The Yiling Yangtze River Bridge crosses the Yangtze river in Yichang City, China. The bridge is a 3-pylon prestressed concrete box girder, cable-stayed bridge with a single cable plane and two 348 m main spans. The pylons have an inverted Y shape and the side pylons are slightly shorter than the central one. The central pylon is in deep water but the side pylons are located in areas where the riverbed is exposed in the dry season, reducing the construction costs. Four intermediate piers on both banks improve the system rigidity and reduce forces on the girder and pylons. The upper pylons consist of cable anchorage zones with prestressing bars distributed in the walls. The construction of the bridge is outlined.
