Abstract
The radiolytic oxidation of tetravalent tellurium, in concentration from 10/sup -4/ to 1M, was studied in 0.2N NaOH solution under oxygen or after degassing. A mechanism was proposed for the reactions produced in dilute solution; it leads to the following values for the radical and molecular yields in this medium: G/sub H/ = 2.75; G/sub OH/ = 3.15; G/sub H/sub 2/ = 0.30; G/sub H/ sub 2/sub O/sub 2/ = 0.10; and G/sub -H/sub 2/sub O/ = 3.35. The formati on of elementary Te in the concentrated solutions is attributed to a direct effect of the radiation. (tr-auth)
