Abstract
The G(Fe/sup 3+/) values were measured in air-saturated aqueous solutions of 2.5 x 10/sup -4/ M Fe/sup 2+/, 0.4 M H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/, and 0.5 to 10 x 10/sup -4/ M C/sub 2/H/sub 5/OH after gamma irradiation. An inflection point on the curve of the relation between G(Fe/sup 3+/) and the concentration of C/sub 2/H/sub 5/OH was observed. The results are qualitatively explained as the competition between various chain mechanisms of iron oxidation and various possible chain breaking reactions. (auth)
