The Empirical Study of Factors Affecting Competitiveness of Large and Medium Cities in China

The main factors affecting the competitiveness of the city include economic strength, scientific and technological innovation, cultural education, oopenness, ecological environment, residents, government management, communication, transportation, medical etc. This paper established two-level computational model based on principal component analysis (PCA) for comprehensive evaluation on city competitiveness. After the appraisal of domestic 283 Municipalities, provincial and prefecture-level cities, we reach the results that: the coastal and western regions of the city's competitive advantage is reducing, the city's comprehensive competitiveness ranking in front of the city of Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Tianjin, Suzhou, Chengdu, Wuhan, Nanjing, and so on.
