Abstract
The effect of fractionated irradiation (3x 200r) on hematopoiesis of fasted rats was studied. The results show that 4-day starvation leads to depletion of erythroid bone marrow cells, whereas myeloid cells do not show disturbed mitotic activity. Realimentation soon leads to the regeneration of erythroid cells and increased proliferation of myeloid cells. After fractionated irradiation the recovery of erythroid cells is relatively intense and quick. The stimulative effect of realimentation on mitosis is not fully effective during regeneration which indicates that irradiation in the dosages given decreases the reproductive ability of these cells.
