Abstract

Apanteles chilo luteelli sp. nov. (figs. 1-4)This species belongs to the glomeratus-group (Nixon, 1965), and is closely related to A. hanshouensis You et Xiong, but differs from the latter in the hind coxae dark-brown except apical half testaceous; prescutellar furrow curved; stigma testaceous; 1st abscissa of radius sharply angled with the transverse eubitus, the angle of junction being definitely protruding outward; tergite 2 slightly longer than tergite 3. this species differs from A. chilonis (Munakata) in the mesonotum as wide as head; preapical segment of antenna equal in length and width; mesonotum with fine and distinct punctures; me-sopleura is smooth and shining except for subtegular ridges with close punctures.Further more, this species differs from both A. hanshouensis You et Xiong and A. chilonis (Munakata) in the morphological characters of the gonobase, aedeagus and the base of parameral plates of genitalis.Length: ♀ 2.4mm,♂ 2.2mm.Host. Gregarious parasites of Chilo luteellus (Motschulsky) and C. hyrax Bles-zynski; cocoons white, found in small groups inside the reed stem.Type: Holotype ♀, allotype ♂, Hanshou (29°N, 112°E), Hunan Province, Ⅳ. 23. 1981, collected by Wang Zong-dian. Paratypes 75 ♀♀ 37 ♂♂, Hanshou, Hunan Province, Ⅳ. 23. 1981, Ⅶ. 3. 1981, Ⅳ. 25. 30. 1983, collected by Wang Zong-dian Yang Min-li. All specimens were bred from caterpillars of Chilo luteellus (Motschulsky) and C. hyrax Bleszynski. All types specimens are deposited in the Hunan Agricultural College and the Hanshou Institute of Reed, Hunan.Projects Supported by the Science Fund of the Aeademia Sinica.
