Expression of p27 in gastric carcinoma and its clinical significance

Objective To study the expression and clinical significance of p27 in gastric carcinoma patients in different pathologic types.Methods The expression of p27 was detected with immunohistochemical staining technique in 135 cases of gastric carcinoma(55 of high differentiation adenocarcinoma,53 of low differentiation adenocarcinoma and 27 of stomach mucosa carcinoma) and 45 cases of normal gastric mucosa.Results The positive expression of p27 was 45.93% in gastric carcinoma,significantly lower than that in normal gastric mucosa(84.44%).The positive expression rates of p27 was much higher in high differentiation adenocarcinoma(65.45%) than that in low differentiation adenocarcinoma(33.96%) and stomach mucosa carcinoma(40.74%)(P0.05).There was no significant difference in positive expression rate between low differentiation adenocarcinoma and stomach mucosa carcinoma(P0.05).The positive expression rates of p27 in the cases without lymph node metastasis(48.00%) was much higher than that in the cases with lymph node metastasis(22.50%)(P0.05).The positive expression rate of p27 in the cases survived for 5 years or more(52.63%) was significantly higher than that in the cases survived within 5 years(16.67%%)(P0.05).Conclusion The low expression of p27 in gastric carcinoma is correlated with the occurrence,the pathologic stage,lymph node metastasis and survival time of gastric carcinome.To detect p27 expression is helpful to the judgement of gastric carcinoma progression and the prognosis.
