Expression of Fas in gastric carcinoma and relationship between Fas and lymph node metastasis

Objective To observe the expression of Fas in gastric carcinoma,and investigate the relationship between Fas and tumorigenesis,prognosis in gastric carcinoma patients.Methods Expression of Fas in 135 gastric carcinoma cases(70 cases from gastroscope and 65 cases from operation) were detected by immunohistochemical staining technique(SP method).Results The positive expression rate of Fas was 42.96% in gastric carcinoma,which was significantly lower than that in normal gastric mucosa(77.78%).The positive expression rate of Fas in high differentiation adenocarcinoma(60.00%) was much higher than that in low differentiation adenocarcinoma(33.96%) and stomach mucoid carcinoma(33.33%,P0.05).There was no difference between low differentiation adenocarcinoma and stomach mucoid carcinoma.The positive expression rate of Fas in the cases without lymph node metastasis(72.00%) was significantly higher than that with lymph node metastasis(40.00%).The positive expression rate of Fas was 57.89% in cases who survived to 5 years survial post operation and much higher than that in cases less than 5 years(16.67%).Conclusion Expression of Fas in gastric carcinoma was downregulated.The low expression of Fas in gastric carcinoma was related to the pathologic stage,lymph node metastasis and 5 years survival post operation.
