A Displaced Image of "Late Qing Dynasty": On Wang De Wei's "Suppressed Modernity"

Wang De Wei's commentary on the suppressed in the novels of the late Qing Dynasty has recently attracted the attention of relevant scholars.However,his theory of and his approach to literature reveal a cultural displacement,that is,his understanding of the modernity of Chinese literature has unavoidably carried his impression and feelings of American culture,which has led to a dual misinterpretation of the literature of the late Qing Dynasty and the literature of the May 4th Movement.Thus, a proper dialogic channel is to analyze the modernity of Chinese literature through literary language,which will help us have a better understanding of the historical relation between the literature of the late Qing Dynasty,the literature of the May 4th Movement and modern Chinese literature.
