On the Influence of Translated Novels in Late Qing Dynasty upon the Modernity Transfer of Chinese Novel Creation

Abstract

In late Qing Dynasty,the translated novel greatly influenced the modernity transfer of the creation of Chinese novels in many aspects.Influenced by translated novels,Chinese intellectuals firstly changed their literary attitudes towards the novel,thus raising the literary position of novels.The Chinese novel began to manifest its nature of modernity in such aspects as the ideological content,categories of themes,portraying of artistic images,depiction of characters and narrative mode as well as in the application of Chinese vernacular.In this sense,we hold that it was the translated novel that caused the modernity transfer of Chinese novel creation.
