Follow-up Study on Treating Hysteromyoma with Uterine Artery Embolization

Objective To evaluate the c1inical effect of uterine artery embolization in therapy of hysteromyoma. Methods 47 patients with hysteromyoma were treated with selective artery embolization and followed up. The blood supply for hysteromyoma, clinical effect,and recurrent rate of hysteromyoma were studied.Results The source of blood supply of the hysteromyoma was as follows:mostly from unilateral uterine artery 85.1%,14.9% from bilateral uterine artery and 6.4% partly from ovarian artery. In the 47 patients,the cure rate was 17%,the markedly effective rate was 68%,the effective rate was 12.7% and without clinical effect was in 2.12%. There was no recurrence in a11 patients in the follow-up period of 6~48 months.Conclusion Uterine artery embolization is a convenient and effective treatment for hysteromyoma,especially for submucous hysteromyoma,the effect of recovery and disappearance of tumor can be expected.
