Gary B. Palmer' Proposal for the Theorization of Culrural Linguistics

Palmer proposes a theory of cultural linguistics (CL) with a view to enriching the three American traditions in language and culture studies, i.e. Boasian linguistics, ethnosemantics, and ethnography of speaking, of which a synthesis with cognitive linguistics will prove a better approach to the linguistic problems encountered by anthropologists in their study of different cultures. This paper offers an analysis of Palmer抯 motivation and rationale for his theory of CL and an interpretation of the key concepts and basic assumptions of CL.
