Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinicopathological characteristics, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of granular cell tumor(GCT) of the breast. Methods One case of granular cell tumor of the breast was studied by histopathology, radiological and immunohistochemistry, and the literature was reviewed. Results The tumor was located in the upper inner quadrant of the left breast. The tumor was 2 cm×2 cm in size.Microscopically, the cells was large, round, polygonal to spindle in shape, containing abundant eosinophilic granular cytoplasms. It was diastase resistant and PAS positive, the immunohistochemical analysis showed the positive staining for the S-100 protein,NSE and vimentin and the negative staining for cytokeratin,EMA,myoglobin, estrogen and progesterone receptors. Conclusion Primary GCT of the breast is a rare neoplasm. It is usually misdiagnosed based mainly on the clinical, radiological, cytological or rapid intraoperative frozen specimen findings. The correct diagnosis is dependent on the histopathological and immunohistochemical features.
A significance statement is not available in the OpenAlex record.
