Abstract

Objective To evaluate the pathological features and diagnositic criteria of esophageal granular cell tumor (EGCT) and its histogenesis. Methods Four cases of EGCT were investigated by hematoxylin-eosin and S-P immunohistochemical staining. The clinical and pathologic features were analyzed with reviewe of the literatures. Results Histologically,the tumor cells of four EGCT cases were round or spindle with small nuclei and rich cytoplasm,which was eosinophilic granules and strongly PAS-postive. The cell nests were separated by slender fibrous connective tissue septa. Immunohistochemical stain showed that the tumor cells were positive for S-100 protein,NSE,and CD68,but negative for SMA,CK,Mac387,calretinin and inhibin. Conclusions Granular cell tumor of the esophagus is very rare,most of which are benign. Its definite diagnosis should rely on the histopathological and immunohistochemical features.
