Effect of Water Stress on Seed Germination of Flax

Abstract

To understand the effect of drought stress on seed germination of flax and supply some a theory basis for flax drought stress breeding,6 concentrations of PEG-6000(0%,10%,15%,20%,25%,30%) were used to stress three flax lines or varieties during seed germination periods and seed germination rate,germination energy and conductance were investigated.The results showed that seed germination rates and germination energies of flax were gradually decreased with the increase of PEG concentration,and the cultivar Longya No.8 decreased more than the other two lines.Results of conductance indicated some tendencies of low-high-low with the increase of PEG concentrations,some degree of PEG had some effect on vitality improvement of flax seed,however higher degree of PEG could decrease the flax seed vitality.There were major differences on drought resistance for three flax cultivars,and line 076 have a better ability to resist drought stress,but variety Longya No.8 shows less ability to resist it.
