Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical effects of telescope denture treatment in geriatric patients with moderate to severe periodontal diseases. Methods: Ten cases of severe periodontal disease with dentition defect were received telescope denture treatment after periodontal initial and root canal therapy.A total of 12 telescope dentures were made with cobalt-chromic alloy.Within 65 abutment teeth,21 were Mobility I,were Mobility II,and 7 were Mobility III.Inner crowns of teeth were coniform or columniform based on their periodontal conditions. The average follow-up observation period was 2.5 years. The periodontal condition、tooth mobility and radiology changes were observed. Results: After treatment,10 patients with moderate to severe periodontal diseases showed an observable decrease of tooth mobility.X-ray results showed that the trabecular bones were dense and neatly arranged;the osteoporosis density showed an obvious increase;no decrease was visible in the height of alveolar, except an increase in some parts. Conclusion: The appropriate designed telescope denture was confirmed as a fairly effective treatment for periodontal diseases.
