Abstract
Objective Investigate and find out the clinical effects of telescope denture treatment by observing the periodontal conditions of abutment teeth in patients with moderate to severe periodontal diseases before and after telescope denture treatment. Methods 27 cases of severe periodontal disease with dentition defect received telescope denture treatment after periodontal initial and root canal therapy.Altogether 36 telescope dentures were made,29 using telescope denture outer crowns made of chrime-nickel alloy and 7 using telescope denture outer crowns made of gold alloy.Total abutment teeth were 183,28 of them with Mobility I,139 with Mobility II,16 with Mobility III.The average follow-up observation period was three and a half years.Plaque index, gingival index, pocket depth, tooth mobility and radiology changes were investigated. Results After treatment,27patients with moderate to severe periodontal diseases showed a decrease of tooth mobility and also a decrease of the average depth of the periodontal pocket, and a remarkable improvement in the periodontal conditions(P0.01).X-ray results show: after the treatment there is no obvious widening in the periodental ligament of abutments;the trabecular bones are dense and neatly arranged;the osteoporosis density has an obvious increase;no decrease is visible in the height of alveolar, except an increase in some parts. The patients themelves felt satisfied.Especially, there was a significant improvement in the periodontic conditions using gold alloy telescope denture. Conclusion The telescope denture is fairly effective in the prosthodontic treatment of periodontal diseases.Using telescope dentures with inner and outer crowns made of gold alloy can yield a better treatment effect.
