Problems in Evaluation of Teachers' Performance in American Colleges and Universities and Its Enlightenments to Their Chinese Counterparts

Evaluation of teachers' performance not only ensures the improvement of the educational quality but also provides a good method to keep track of teachers' working conditions and their performance.However,quite a few problems exist in the performance evaluation system of American colleges and universities.First,most teachers fail to recognize the aim of performance evaluation.Secondly,legitimacy of the evaluation subject is in question.Thirdly,there is imbalance among the indexes for evaluation.And we can draw a lesson from these problems in establishing and improving the performance evaluation system in our institutions of higher learning.
