Abstract

Objective To investigate the chemical constituents from the rhizomes of Polygonum su-ffultum.Methods Compounds were isolated and purified by solvent extraction, silica gel, polyamide,Sephadex LH-20,and macroporous resin column chromatography, and recrystallization.Their structures were identified on the basis of NMR spectroscopic data and co-TLC with authentic samples. Results Ele-ven compounds were obtained and elucidated as neohop-13(18)-en-3β-ol(1),neohop-13(18)-en-3β-yl acetate(2),hop-17(21)-en-3β-yl acetate(3),gallic acid(4),sitosterol(5),daucosterol(6),friedelin(7),chlorogenic acid n-butyl ester(8),myricetin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(9),chlorogenic acid(10),and 4-O-caffeoyl quinic acid(11).Conclusion All compounds are reported from P.suffultum for the first time except gallic acid(4),and this is the first report on compounds 1-3,8,9,and 11 from plants of Polygonum L.Compounds 1 and 2 are reported as natural products for the first time.
