Abstract

Objective:to evaluate the clinical safety and efficacy of Levofloxacin (LVLX) in the treatment of bacterial infections. Methods: The patients with acute bacterial infection were enrolled in randomly controlled trials and open labeled trial. In randomly controlled trials, 400?mg Levofloxacin was given by intravenous drip once a day for 7 to 14 days in the trial group while 400~600?mg Ofloxacin (OFLX) was given in the same manner and for a same period in the control group. The open labeled group was only given Levofloxacin. Results:The cure rate of Levofloxacin and Ofloxacin was 74.6% and 64.5% respectively. The clinical efficacy rate of Levofloxacin and Ofloxacin was 96.8% and 88.7% respectively and the bacterial clearance rate were 94.6% and 88.89% respectively. The difference had no statistical significance. The cure rate, clinical efficacy rate in the open labeled group were 72.5% and 95.0% respectively. Incidence of adverse effects was 6.3% in LVLX group, and 8.1% in the control group. The difference between two groups was of no statistical significance. Conclusion:Levofloxacin is an effective and safe drug in the treatment of acute bacterial infection.
