Abstract

Objective To investigate the general population's attitude to AIDS and their relative knowledge level of AIDS prevention and control, and to explore correct emphases of health education in city and countryside. Methods To use the means of the equal capacity stratified cluster sampling, simple random sampling and systematic sampling to identify objects, and 1080 inhabitants were surveyed by uniform questionnaire. Results Correct answer rates of the city residents and countryside residents were 73.22% and 65.56% respectively, which had significant difference. The understanding degree to some questions was lower, the correct answer rate of the question ‘can mosquito transmit HIV?' was the lowest, only 32.19%. Discrimination to people with HIV/AIDS was still prevalent. Conclusion Knowledge level of AIDS prevention and control needs to be enhanced much more among general population, and it is very necessary to strengthen health education of AIDS in city and countryside.
