Abstract
Objective To study the implication of interleukin 6 (IL 6) and C reactive protein (CRP) in the exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) Methods The serum was sampled and prepared from 32 cases of COPD patients with acute exacerbation before and after two weeks therapy and 30 normal controls Serum level of IL 6 was detected by ELISA and CRP by nephelometry method Results The level of IL 6 in COPD with acute exacerbation is significantly higher than that after therapy ( P 0 001) and lower than that in control group( P 0 05) The level of CRP in acute exacerbation is significantly higher than that in control group( P 0 001) Conclusion IL 6 and CRP are involved in the acute inflammation in COPD which may be indices of infection in COPD patients
