Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation between obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS)and some cardiovascular disorders in adult Chinese habitual snorers as well as the effectiveness of nasal continuous positive airway pressure(nCPAP)on those with OSAHS.Methods With the use of polysomnography,262 adult habitual snorers were examined and divided as OSAHS group and the non-OSAHS(control)group.The conditions of daily nocturnal rhythm of blood pressure, hypertension, heart rate variability, some arrythmia and angina pectoris of coronary heart disease were monitored and compared between the two groups, and the effect after 14 days treatment with nCPAP for patients in OSAHS group was also compared with the condition before treatment. Results The incidence of OSAHS in adult snores was up to 54.5 %.For the patients in OSAHS group, daily nocturnal rhythm in blood pressure of hypertension disappeared, angina pectoris of coronary heart disease(CHD)and its episode did not well responded to the nitrate agents, the heart rate variability during non-rapid eye movement sleep decreased, the prevalence of lower SaO2 increased, there were significant differences as compared with those in the control group(P0.05).Through 14 days treatment with nCPAP,the SaO2 level of the patients in OSAHS group was significantly increased as compared with that before treatment(P0.05),and the daily nocturnal rhythm in blood pressure was returned to normal. Conclusion OSAHS is associated with some cardiovascular disorders. The nCPAP therapy is not only effective to OSAHS,but also can improve the coexisting cardiovascular disorders.
