Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between the peripheral serum level of homocysteine(HCY)and the severity of coronary artery lesions in patients with acute coronary syndrome. Methods The serum level of HCY was measured by ELISA in 51 patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS group,n=51),20 with stable angina(SA group,n=20)and 23 with non-coronary heart disease(NCHD group,n=23).The relationship between the peripheral serum level of HCY and the severity of coronary artery lesions was explored. Results The serum level of HCY was significantly increased in ACS group compared with SA group and NCHD group(P0.01);the serum level of HCY in SA group was significantly higher than that in NCHD group(P0.05).The serum level of HCY in ACS group was correlated positively with the number of coronary artery stenosis(r=0.497,P0.01),and also correlated positively with Gensini score(r=0.446,P0.01).Conclusion The serum level of HCY was significantly increased in the patients with ACS,which suggested that they would be associated with coronary plaque vulnerability;the serum level of HCY was correlated positively with the number of coronary artery stenosis and Gensini score, which suggested that they would promote the formation and development of coronary atherosclerosis.
