Comparsion of the Effect between Duloxetine and Fluoxetine on Potential P300 for Patients with First Episode Depression

Abstract

Objective To compare the effect and the influence between duloxetine and fluoxetine on the cognitive function of patients with first episode depression. Methods 74 patients with first episode depression were randomly divided into duloxetine group and fluoxetine group. P300 and Hamilton depression scale (HAMD) were used to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy before and 12 weeks after the treatment. Compared with 30 normal persons with age and sex matched (control group), the change of P300 was observed. Results Compared with the control group, the P2, N2 and P3 latency and reactive time of P300 in duloxetine group and fluoxetine group were significantly prolonged, while the amplitude decreased, and the differences were statistically significant. After treatment, the P2, N2 and P3 latency and reactive time of P300 in duloxetine group and fluoxetine group significantly reduced and volatility increased with significant difference compared with the condition before treatment. The differences of P300 indices between duloxetine group and fluoxetine group were not statistically significant; 12 weeks after the treatment, the efficacy between two groups had no significant difference. No significant correlation was found between HAMD scores before and after treatment, P300 latency, amplitude and reaction time before and after treatment. Conclusions Duloxetine and fluoxetine are effective in the treatment of patients with first episodedepression,which play the role in improving patients' cognitive function.
