Abstract

Objective: To observe the effect of long term therapy of leukotriene receptor antagonist in asthmatic children. Methods: Based on different plans of long term treatment,79 children with mild or moderate asthma were divided into three groups.Thirty-five children with asthma who received only inhaled budesonide served as treatment group A.Other thirty-three children in treatment group B were treated with orally montelukast.Eleven children, who abandoned treatment plans for one or another reason, served as a control group.Clinical results between three groups and the changes of pulmonary function were compared. Results: The therapeutic effect of two treatment groups was compared with that of control group. The results are χ~2=22.62,16.05 respectively(P0.001).There was no significant difference in two treatment groups(P(0.05)).There was significant difference in the change of pulmonary function in the two treatment groups before and after treatment(P0.01). Conclusions: Leukotriene receptor antagonist,as well as inhaled budesonide,is helpful in treating mild or moderate asthma and no significant adverse events are found.
