Abstract

Literary theories are always stamped with the marked brand of national value concepts and closely related with the national language. While modern Chinese intellectuals have, in the course of seeking truth from the West, borrowed from the West technical terms and literary theory concepts, establishing some literary theory systems and promoting the academic development, they have meanwhile brought about a discontinuity between ancient and modern literary theories. In the current context of exchange, merging and competition among global cultures, due attention should be paid to reviewing the national features of ancient literary theories so as to highlight the national features of modern literary theories. This paper attempts to probe into the issue and puts forth some tentative proposals for further study.
