The Combination of Ulinastatin and Rhubarb as an Effective Treatment for Severe Acute Pancreatitis

Abstract

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of the combination of ulinastatin and rhubarb to treat severe acute pancreatitis(SAP).Method: 56 SAP patients were divided into treatment group and control group randomly and equally.The former group was treated with the combination of ulinastatin and rhubarb,while the latter one was cured with ulinastatin only.Serum amylase,glucose,calcium and white blood cell count were observed before and after the treatment.At the same time,the time of the alleviation of abdominal pain and distension,the first defecation as well as the complication rate and the average duration of hospitalization were observed after the treatment.Result: The patients in the treatment group experienced alleviation of abdominal pain and distension earlier with lower complication rate and shorter duration of hospitalization than the patients in the control group.Meanwhile,the patients,laboratory tests in the treatment group returned to normal levels faster than those in control group.Conclusion: The combination of ulinastatin and rhubarb was effective to treat severe acute pancreatitis.
