Abstract
A new online upgrade scheme for IPTV set top box(STB) based on the embedded Linux system is introduced.In the STB Flash memory an additional Linux kernel and file system is stored besides the other Linux kernel and file system to run the normal function.Thus the STB can provide online upgrade function with double system.Using the function of the BootLoader in the embedded Linux system and the memory technology device(MTD) a safe and flexible online upgrade function is realized at a kind of STB using a microprocessor with the MIPS architecture.
