Abstract

One strain virus was isolated from affected chickens in Fengyang of Anhui using specific pathogen free(SPF)chicken embryos, and characterized as Newcastle disease virus (NDV) by hemagglutination (HA)/hemagglutination_inhibition (HI) test, inoculation of embryos after neutralization using particular sera. The biological characteristics of the virus was determined by measuring the mean death time of chicken embryos (MDT),the intracerebral pathogenicity index in day_old chicks (ICP) and the intravenous pathgenicity index in 6_week_old chickens (IVPI) at the virulence of NDV.The MDT,ICPI and were 44h,1.74 and 2.39 respectively. The results indicated that the isolate was high virulence like velogenic Newcastle disease virus.16_day_old chickens,Geese and ducks could all be infected with a 100% morbidity and 40%~80%,40%~60%,0 mortality respectively,by different infection ways, both inoculation and contagiou transuission such as co_breeding.
