Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between serum high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels and insulin sensitivity or islet function in patients with hyperuricemia. Methods Serum hs-CRP level was determined with highly sensitive enzyme-link immune absorption assay(ELISA) method in 41 patients with hyperuricemia and 20 normal controls, meanwhile plasma glucose and serum insulin were measured. Moreover, homeostasis model analysis (HOMA) insulin resistance index (HOMA IR) and HOMA-islet secretion index (HOMA IS) were calculated to reflect insulin sensitivity and islet function. Results In the patients with hyperuricemia, serum hs-CRP and HOMA IR index were higher than those in the normal group ( P 0.01),HOMA IS index were decreased as compared with normal subject( P 0.01).Moreover,serum hs-CRP was higher in hyperuricemia patients accompany with gout than that in symptomless hyperuricemia patients( P 0.01).The liner regression analysis in hyperuricemia patients showed that serum hs-CRP was positively correlated with body mass index,HOMA IR index, serum uric acid and urine uric acid level respectively( P 0.01).Conclusion Serum hs-CRP level is higher in the patients with hyperuricemia than that in normal subjects, and play an important role in the onset and development of insulin resistance.
