Abstract
Objective To explore the relations between hyperuricemiaand pre-diabetes(PDM),insulin resistance(IR) in senile patients. Methods Totally 74 senile patients with hyperuricemia and PDM(hyperuricemia group) and 56 senile patients with PDM and with normal serum uric acid(control group) were selected, then according to the levels of blood sugar the two groups were again divided as impaired fasting glucose subgroup and impaired glucose tolerance subgroup respectively. The levels of fasting plasma glucose(FPG),fasting insulin(FINS) and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose(2 hPG) were determined and compared between the two groups, and the Homa insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR) and insulin sensitive index(ISI) were calculated. Results There were significant differences in serum uric acid,FPG,HOMA-IR and ISI between hyperuricemia group and control group(P0.05).There were significant differences in serum uric acid,FINS and HOMA-IR between hyperuricemia-IFG group and control-IFG group(P0.05).There were significant differences in serum uric acid and 2hPG between hyperuricemia-IGT group and control-IGT group(P0.05).The level of serum uric acid was related positively to FPG,FINS and Homa-IR(P0.05),and negatively to ISI(P0.05).Conclusion The hyperuricemia and IR are closely related, being of a causal relationship. The patient with hyperuricemia is likely to be complicated by IGT or/and IFG.
