Abstract
Currently,Multi Protocol Label Switching(MPLS)is one of the most promising technologies of IP over Asynchronous Transfer Mode(ATM),which is suitable to apply in backbone and Wide Area Network(WAN).A combination technology of IP and ATM can be used in the area of traffic management and QoS.The benefit of the MPLS,which is running on FR and ATM,comes from the discretionary connectivity with connect oriented technology.In this paper,several representative technologies of IP over ATM were introduced at first.Then,basic principle and the network architecture of MPLS were reviewed.Finally,applications of MPLS were discussed.
