Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of baicalin on the contractility of isolated intestine and gastric smooth muscle strips of rat.Methods The effects of baicalin on the contractility of isolated rat intestine and gastric strips were studied in Krebs' solution in the presence of high,normal and low concentrations of Ca2+ respectively.The observation of the effects of baicalin on the contractile activity in the presence of neostigmine,acetylcholine,histamine and atropine respectively were also studied.Results Baicalin inhibited the muscle contraction of isolated rat intestine and gastric strips in a dose-dependent manner,antagonized the stimulation induced by neostigmine,acetylcholine and histamine.Synergy inhibition on contractile activity was induced by concurrent use of baicalin and atropine.Conclusion Baicalin has prominent inhibition on the contractile activity of isolated rat intestine and gastric strips.
