Abstract

Objective: To investigate the contraction effect of baicalin on isolated uterus in rabbits. Methods: Conventional isolated uterine strips of rabbits were used to observe the reactions in different conditions. Results: (1) Isolated rabbit uterus smooth muscle contraction was dose-dependently inhibited by baicalin (5-10 mmol·L-1). (2) The contraction induced by oxytocin and Ca2+ after high K+ depolarization was dose-dependently inhibited by baicalin. The cumulativedose-response curves of CaCl2 shifted to right and the maximal responses were depressed, which showed that baicalin was a non competitive antagonist. (3) The extracellular and intracellular Ca2+ dependent contraction evoked by oxytocin could also be inhibited by baicalin. Conclusion: Baicalin could inhibit the contractility of the isolated uterus smooth muscle and might relate with inhibition Ca2+.
