Abstract
Objective:The purpose of the study is to investigate the effects of capsaicin on contractile activity of isolated rat gastric smooth muscle strips.Methods:Firstly, isolated rat gastric strips were selected in the assay to study the effects of capsaicin on their contractile activity under Krebs' solution in the presence of high, normal or low concentration of Ca2+,observe the effects of capsaicin on the contractile activity in the presence of acetylcholine, neostigmine, atropine or berberine respectively.Results:Capsaicin in the range of 2.5 mol/L-40 mol/L could inhibit the muscle contraction of isolated rat gastric strips in a dose-dependent manner in the presence of high, normal and low concentration of Ca2+(P0.05, P0.01), and capsaicin could antagonize the stimulation induced by acetylcholine or neostigmine under the normal concentrateion of Ca2+(P0.01).Capsaicin could synergy the inhibition induced by atropine(P0.01).Conclusion:The results suggest that capsaicin has prominent inhibitory effects on the contractile activity of isolated rat gastric smooth muscle strips.
