Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between serum sodium level and severity of the disease in decompensated liver cirrhosis patients. Methods 145 cirrhosis and ascites patients with hyponatremia were studied retrospectively. The patients were divided into light, moderate and severe hyponatremia groups according to their serum sodium levels.Clinical data including hepatonephric function, blood coagulation,Chind-Pugh score, main complications, effect of correcting hyponatremia and mortality were compared among the groups. Results The degree of hyponatremia were related to their hepatonephric function, blood coagulation,Child-Pugh classification, main complications, effect of correcting hyponatremia and mortality(P0.05,P0.01).The serum globulin level among the three groups had no significant difference (P0.05).Conclusion The serum sodium level in decompensated cirrhotic patients is correlated with the disease severity and can be used as an important indicator.
