Abstract

Objective To study and analyze the therapeutic efficacy of using valsartan to treat the elderly patients with essential hypertension. Methods Seventy cases of elderly patients with essential hypertension in our community were randomly divided into the observation group and control group.Patients in observation group were treated with valsartan for antihypertensive treatment, while patients in the control group treated with losartan for antihypertensive treatment. After 12 weeks of treatment, indexes analysis of blood pressure, blood, urine, liver and kidney function before and after treatment was performed. Results After treatment, the contractive pressure and diastolic pressure of the patients in both groups were obviously lower than those of before treatment(P0.05 or P0.01).The contractive pressure and diastolic pressure of the patients in observation group were lower than those of the control group(P0.01)and the total effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group(χ2=4.20,P0.05). No serious complications occurred. Conclusion Valsartan has the advantages of obvious effect, fewer side effects, lower price, being convenient to be taken and good patient compliance, and is especially suitable for elderly patients with hypertension and is worthy of clinical application.
