The Study of Diachronic Development about the Choice - Sentence Type of "NING-KE(宁可)"

Abstract

The choice-sentence type of NING-KE(宁可) experienced the four stages,namely XIAN-QIN,HAN-WEI,TANG-SONG,YUAN-MING-QING and the contemporary era.Looking back this four stages,there are some main laws as follows:(a) The choice-sentence type of NING-KE(宁可) which was marked in the front increased,but the choice-sentence type of NING-KE(宁可) which was marked in the back reduced.(b)The use-frequency of NING-KE(宁可) is beyond NING(宁).(c) NING-KE(宁可),NING-YUAN(宁愿),NING-KEN(宁肯) showed the evolution of imbalance.(d) Several types of fixed-choice sentence emerged.Behind these laws,there are some important causes namely the aesthetic requirements of harmony,symmetry in Chinese,the two-syllable of words and the audio-step,the effects of use-frequency about words,the characteristics of language as a system and so on.
