The Process and Mechanism of the Lexicalization of "NING-KE"(Would Rather)

Abstract

In the history,the course of lexicalization of NING-KE(宁可)experienced five stages,namely the sole use of NING(宁),the emergency of NING-KE(宁可),the preliminary development of NING-KE(宁可),the great development of NING-KE(宁可)and the prosperity of NING-KE(宁可).There are some internal mechanisms in the course of lexicalization.It is thought that the lexicalization of NING-KE(宁可)was effected very much by the integration of the meaning about NING(宁)and KE(可),the requirement of rhythm,and the effect of the frequency of use.
