On the "可得而V" Used in the Prose of Pre-Qin Period

而V was a kind of sentence pattern used in the prose of Pre Qin Period. In dealing with this kind of sentence pattern, 可得而V nowadays is generally regarded as a structure of a part speech of auxiliary verb. Both 可 and 得 are interpreted as able to and may. On the basis of extensively reviewing and examining 可得而V used in the prose of Pre Qin Period, this thesis proves that only 可 is an auxiliary verb, interpreted as may and able to, while 得 should be regarded as an ordinary verb, which means obtain, and it is, in most of the cases, used as a conjunction indicating continuous relationship.
