Abstract

Objective To study the distribution and drug-resistance of coagulase negative Staphylococcus(CNS),isolated from a hospital, and provide the reference for the clinical antimicrobial agents usage. Methods CNS isolated from clinical samples during May 2003 to March 2005 and antimicrobial susceptibility test results were analysed retrospectively. Results One hundred and forty-four strains((88.89%)) were methicillin-resistant CNS(MRCNS) among 162 strains of CNS,most CNS were Staphylococcus epidermidis((44.45%)) and Staphylococcus hemolyticus((28.40%)).The susceptible rate of CNS and MRCNS to vancomycin and nitrofurantoin were 100%,and susceptible rate to rifampin was 83.33% and 81.25% respectively, while drug-resistant rate to erythromycin and β-lactam antimicrobial agents were 100%,drug-resistanct rate to other antimicrobial agents were all high. Conclusion MRCNS was the main bacteria of CNS isolated from this hospital, which were resistant to many antimicrobial agents, the detection of MRCNS and drug resistance monitor should be highly stressed.
