Abstract
Objective: To study the protective effect of total glucoside of Picrorhiza scrophulariflora Pennell on actue chemical induced liver injury in mice. Methods: A liver injury model was prepared by injecting carbon tetrachloride (CCl 4) into mouse intraperitoneally. The activities of serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and the liver weight index were measured. The levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) and the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in liver tissues of the mice were also measured. Results : TGP could ( given at 8 mg and 16 mg/kg/d intraperitoneally for 7 days) inhibit the activities of serum ALT and AST significantly ( P 0.01) and decrease the enlarged liver weight index, inhibit the levels of MDA and NO as well as the activities of SOD in liver tissues of the mice significantly ( P 0.01). Conclution: TGP has a protective effect on acute liver injury in mice induced by CCl 4 and this effect is associated with its anti lipid peroxide.
