Abstract
Objective To study the expressions of survivin, bcl-2 and PTEN in the human astrocytomas and relationship among them. Methods The expressions of survivin, bcl-2 and PTEN were determined by immunohistochemical technique in 67 cases of human astrocylomas and 10 cases of normal brain tissues. The relationship among survivin, bcl-2 and PTEN and their relationship with pathological development of astrocytomas were analyzed. Results There were no expressions of survivin and bcl-2 in the normal brain tissues. There was significant difference in survivin, bcl-2 and PTEN expressions among the astrocytomas of different grades (P0.01). Along with the increase in pathological grade of human astrocytomas, the positive rate and intensity of survivin and bcl-2 expressions increased gradually (P0.01), but PTEN decreased gradually (P0.01). The expression of survivin was positively related to the expression of bcl-2 in human astrocytomas (P0.01), but the expressions of survivin and bcl-2 were negatively related to the expression of PTEN in the astrocytomas. Conclusions The high expressions of survivin and bcl-2 and the relative low expression of PTEN in the astrocytomas may be related with the pathological development of human astrocytomas.
