Abstract

Objective To explore the expression level of Survivin in the human astrocytomas and its relationship between tumorigenesis and progression of the human astrocytomas. Methods The expression level of Survivin protein was investigated by immunohistochemistry Enivision method in 53 cases of the human astrocytomas and 10 cases of normal brain tissues. Results 34 of 53(64.1%) astrocytic tumors expressed survivin. The distributions included 7 of 18(38.9%)diffuse astrocytomas,14 of 19(74.7%)anaplastic astrocytomas, and 13 of 16(81.3%) glioblastomas, and the positive rate was increased associated with tumor grade getting higher.Survivin was not found expression in the normal brain tissue. Conclusion The strong relationship between malignant grade and survivin expression indicates that expression of survivin may relate to tumor malignant progression of astrocytic tumors.
