Application of Orem theory in rehabilitation nursing of cerebral apoplexy

Objective To study the effect of the Orem's theory on the stroke rehabilitation of patients'self-care ability and quality of life.Methods: One hundred stroke patients were analyzed in our department from June 2011 to December 2012.All the patients were divided into control group(50 cases) and intervention group(50 cases).The control group received the routine care of the rehabilitation in the department of neurology,while the intervention group were guided under the Orem's theory during rehabilitation.We evaluated the two groups of patients at the time of admission and after 4 weeks with Aetivity Daily Living Scale(ADL) and Quality of Life Scale(QOL).Results: After 4 weeks of admission,the stroke patients in intervention group got higher score than those in control group in ADL and QOL(P 0.05).Conclusion: The care guided with Orem theory can improve the ability of self-care and quality of life of stroke patients.
