Abstract

British Robert Hart served as Inspector General of China's Imperial Maritime Custom Service for a long time,playing a great role in the politics,diplomacy and economy of the late Qing Dynasty.Weng Tonghe,teacher of Emperor Tong Zhi and Emperor Guang Xu,was also a prominent figure in that period.As time went by,Weng was paying more and more attention to Hart,who thought high of Weng too.Their relationship was tightly connected with the situation of the late Qing and worth studying.
