Relationship Between the Expression of Survivin and Malignant Proliferation of Gastric Carcinoma and the Prognostic Value of Survivin

Objective To investigate the expression of survivin in gastric carcinoma and its relationship with clinicopathological features and malignant proliferation, and to evaluate the prognostic value of survivin.Methods The expression of survivin and ki-67 was detected in 50 specimens from gastric carcinoma, 12 specimens from superfical gastritis by immunohistochemical technique (S-P). Survival analysis was performed by Kaplan-Meier analysis.Results The positive rate of survivin in gastric cancer was 74.0%, significantly higher than that in superfical gastritis(P0.001).The expression of survivin was significantly related with tumor infiltration depth, lymph node metastases ,distant place metastases and clinical stage(P0.05), but not with tumor cell differentiation(P0.05). There was significant correlation between the expression of survivin and Ki-67(P0.05). Survival rate in survivin negative group was significantly higher than that in survivin positive group(P0.05).Cox proportional hazard regression confirmed that survivin was a significant independent prognostic factor for survival(P0.05).Conclusion Survivin may play a role in the malignant proliferation of gastric carcinoma. The expression of survivin may indicate poor prognosis of gastric carcinoma.
