Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of survivin in gastric carcinoma. Methods The expression of survivin in gastric carcinoma was examined immunohistochemically using SP staining method. The relationship between survivin expression and the clinicopathologic parameters, prognosis was analyzed. Results Survivin was expressed in 47 6% of gastric carcinoma. The positive expression of survivin was significantly related to the infiltration, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage(P0 05), but had no correlation with the age, sex, tumor location, Borrmann's type and histological grade(P0 05). The 5-year survival rate was significantly lower with survivin positively staining(30 0%) than survivin negative(56 4%, P=0 007). Cox regression indicated survivin was an independent prognostic marker of gastric carcinoma. Conclusion Survivin was overexpressed in gastric carcinoma. Expression of survivin had a significant relation with the invasion depth, lymph node metastasis, TNM stage and poor prognostis. Survivin is an important prognostic indicator of gastric carcinoma.;
